Videophone communication established with Serbian Professors

On the initiative of the Faculty of Philology of Armenian State Pedagogical University videophone communication was established with famous Professors Elica Stoianović and Budimir Aleksić.

Professor Elica Stoianović works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Philology, the University of Nikšić, while Professor Budimir Aleksić teaches Serbian at the Faculty of Theology in Cetinje city in Montenegro.

The official language in Montenegro is Montenegrin. Although 35 percent of the population speak that language, most people speak and use Serbian.
Under the Charter of the country, Serbs do not enjoy full respect of their rights and are not even recognized as national minority.

The professors working under such difficult conditions for the Serbian community presented ASPU lecturers and future philologists the paths of development of the Serbian language, starting from the 12th century, when the first book written in the Cyrillic script was published, to linguistic reforms introduced by Serbian philologist and linguist Vuk Karadžić.

The parties agreed to continue cooperation. During the next meeting through Skype, Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), will present the Serbian audience the ancient Armenian language, literature and culture.

The meeting was attended by Babken Simonyan, Honorary Consul of Serbia in Armenia, a writer and translator, and “Kantegh” prize winner, who provided bilingual translation.
