The Chair of Economics and Management was founded in 1947-1948 academic year under the name of Chair of Political Economy. Initially, the Chair was included in the Faculty of History and Geography, later it was separated and involved in the university-wide departments.

In its 70 years of existence, the Chair has been carrying out educational, methodical and scientific activities.

The primary objectives of the Chair’s strategic development include:

  • making educational programmes compliant with international education standards
  • improving the quality of teaching
  • ensuring effective lecturing, improving quality and methods
  • promoting and expanding scientific research activities
  • increasing the efficiency of organizational and management activities of the Chair
  • organizing lectures on topical issues in economics

In addition to Theory of General Economics, the Chair also provides courses in “Technology and Entrepreneurship” of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, as well as in “Social and cultural activities: Management and Governance” of the Faculty of Culture.

The Chair offers 47 Bachelor’s degree and 25 Master’s degree programmes, as well as PhD programmes.

Four Professors, three Associate Professors and three Assistant Professors work in the Chair.

ABOUT TEMPUS MAHATMA PROJECT

MAHATMA (Master in Higher Education Management: developing leaders for managing educational transformation) is a three-year multi-country joint project. http://www.mahatma.am/


WIDER OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT:
To promote transformation of higher education management in Armenia and Georgia through introduction of a new Master’s programme/professional development courses in higher education management.

THE PURPOSE OF THE EDUCATION MANAGEMENT MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME
The programme is created to address the need for improved management in Armenian higher education institutions (HEIs), which require effective management to meet their objectives, whether academic or their wider commitments to society. The programme offers an intellectual and professional challenge to HEI staff with management responsibilities and aspirations to leadership roles.

 

 

VALIDITY OF THE PROGRAMME 

The Master in Educational Management enables graduates to fulfill functions in all education-related organizations. They will demonstrate an advanced understanding of current management, leadership and pedagogical issues and challenges of the educational sector as well as the ability to take a global perspective on tackling management issues in education.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
► Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of above 2.5
► Credits substantially equivalent to those required by ASPU
► Evidence of their English language proficiency.
► Curriculum vitae
►Introduction of personal history, including motivation and goals, and emphasizing the applicant interest.

FIELDS OF PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE
In response to the broad range of challenges that arise in practice, graduates acquire advanced knowledge and skills in the fields of management, leadership and pedagogy. Their competence profile enables them to work in leadership positions in the following types of institutions and industries:
