27.06.2026
The two-day international conference entitled “Education and Philosophy” continued at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on June 27 with professional discussions and parallel work of the branches, providing participants with further opportunities for scholarly exchange and dialogue.
Let us remind that the conference was organized through the joint efforts of ASPU, the International Institute for Metaphilosophy, Argumentation, and Armenology, the Armenian Philosophical Academy (APHA), and the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP), with the support of ASPU’s partner Ameriabank CJSC.
“Until the 2020s, Georg Brutian was the only philosopher from Armenia who regularly participated in the World Congresses of Philosophy organized by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies. Today, the situation is different. In 2023, the Armenian Philosophical Academy became a member of FISP, which set the stage for a historic Armenian presence at the 25th World Congress of Philosophy held in Rome in 2024, where eleven Armenian philosophers presented their reports,” Hasmik Hovhannisyan, Head of the Chair of Philosophy and Logic named after Academician Georg Brutian at ASPU, Director of the International Institute of Metaphilosophy, Argumentation, and Armenology, and President of the Armenian Philosophical Academy, said when highlighting the significance of the international event.
The conference continued in four parallel sections, covering the fields of philosophy, pedagogy (education), psychology, and sociology.
The discussions focused on current developments in education and philosophical thought, opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as emerging challenges and prospects for education in the context of modern technological changes.
In the Philosophy section, participants discussed current trends in the development of philosophical thought in education, addressing the methodology of teaching critical, analytical, and creative thinking.
The reports presented the philosophical foundations of education, the impact of the information society on educational processes, as well as issues related to the formation of modern knowledge and values. The possibilities of using artificial intelligence in education and its impact on the process of improving the quality of education were also discussed.
Discussions in the field of education and pedagogy focused on the key issues shaping contemporary education. Participants presented reports on educational strategies, the development of the general education system, media education, modern models of education management, as well as the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in educational settings.
In their reports presented in the psychology section, the speakers addressed the issues of human behavior in educational settings, psychological support, education management, identity formation, and social and professional development.
The papers presented in the sociology section emphasized the social impact of educational change. Discussions focused on educational policy, digitization, social partnership, educational motivation, professional self-realization, and the effectiveness of higher education.
After summarizing the results of the two-day conference, participants adopted the conference communiqué, which stated that the presentations and discussions had reaffirmed that, in the context of transforming societies and rapid technological and social changes, educational systems are facing both new opportunities and significant challenges.
In this context, particular emphasis was placed on preserving the humanistic values of education, developing critical and creative thinking, strengthening the role of philosophy in education, as well as developing ethical and pedagogical principles for the application of artificial intelligence.
The conference participants highly appreciated the scientific and educational legacy of Academician Georg Brutian, emphasizing that it continues to make a significant contribution to the advancement of the culture of argumentation, logic, critical thinking, and international scientific dialogue.
At the ceremonial closing of the conference, Acting Rector of ASPU Lilit Mkrtchyan summarized the outcomes of the two-day event and emphasized that new academic traditions are taking shape at the University.
She added the international conference can be considered a real science festival which unites uniting specialists, researchers, and scientists from various fields.
Lilit Mkrtchyan noted that the University has become an environment for generating ideas and fostering scientific dialogue, where new questions in the fields of education and science are formed and answered which in turn become the basis for new ideas and further research.
Lilit Mkrtchyan also emphasized the importance of the conference as a platform for expanding international cooperation, establishing new academic partnerships, developing joint initiatives, and promoting professional dialogue.
Summarizing the conference, ASPU Vice Rector Mariam Ispiryan emphasized the significance of the event in promoting professional engagement, disseminating innovation in education and research, deepening academic cooperation, and creating new opportunities for knowledge exchange.
At the conclusion of the conference, certificates of participation were awarded to the participants.
