The Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) has joined the Armenian University Coalition for Biodiversity (AUCB), a unified platform for academic cooperation established among the universities in the Republic of Armenia to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management.
The signing ceremony of the memorandum of cooperation (MoC) on the formation of AUCB took place within the framework of the official launch of the Biodiversity Ambassador Program.
Acting Rector of ASPU Lilit Mkrtchyan also signed the document, thereby confirming the university's membership in the Coalition.
ASPU's participation in the initiative creates a new opportunity to use the University's educational, scientific, and expert potential in inter-university and interdisciplinary cooperation which is aimed at biodiversity conservation.
The Coalition aims to create a unified platform for academic cooperation among Armenian HEIs regarding biodiversity conservation and sustainable management.
The purpose of the initiative is to consolidate scientific, educational, and applied activities of the universities in the field of biodiversity, as well as to ensure the involvement of Armenia’s higher education system in the upcoming COP-17 processes in Yerevan.
The members of the Coalition are expected to implement joint educational and research initiatives, thematic conferences and discussions, student and youth programs, and public awareness events, as well as to establish a student volunteer network.
The Biodiversity Ambassador Program is one of the joint initiatives of the Coalition which aims to engage university students in Armenia in biodiversity conservation and processes related to COP17, thereby fostering an informed and active youth community.
Within the framework of the program, students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of biodiversity and its conservation, participate in educational, awareness-raising, and volunteer initiatives, and get involved in activities before and during COP17.
