On 20-21 November, Associate Professor of the Chair of Armenian New and Contemporary Literature and its Teaching Methods after Vache Partizuni at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), researcher of “Diaspora” Scientific-Educational Center Knarik Abrahamyan participated in an international scientific conference under the title “The Black Sea as a Literary and Cultural Space: Ruins and Movements”.

The scientific conference was hosted by Ovidius University in the Romanian city of Constanta and organized by Bulgaria’s “Transpontika” Association and other institutions, gathering representatives from Georgia, Bulgaria, France, Czechia and other countries.

Knarik Abrahamyan delivered a speech entitled “Black Sea: Geographical Area as Creator of Literary Text in Armenian Literature”.

Abrahamyan touched upon Armenian authors in whose original works the Black Sea plays a special role. She particularly emphasized the questions posed in Kostan Zaryan’s novel “The Ship on the Mountain”, the characteristics of shaping in the novel “I address you, ladies and gentlemen!” by foreign language writer Levon Zaven Syurmelyan in which, with the example of his hometown of Trabizon, the author presents the role that the Black Sea played in his psychology and inner world and in the destiny of the people, where the Sea is presented as a constantly renewed memory, a crossroads of civilizations and a psychological ruin at the same time.

The participants of the scientific conference were introduced to the city’s historical and cultural sites, including the Armenian trace, and they also visited the ruins of Histria.
