“Chess” Scientific Research Institute
The “Chess” Scientific Research Institute (CSRI) opened in February 2018 on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) after Khachatur Abovian, and Grandmaster Smbat Lputian, founding president of the Chess Academy of Armenia.
With its unique focus and research direction, the institute remains one of a kind globally. It conducts in-depth research into the psychological, educational, and sociological issues of chess teaching.
Our Mission is
to reveal and develop the educational potential of chess, using it to shape the capabilities of the 21st-century citizens and improve the quality of life.
Our Goals are
• to study the educational value of the "Chess" subject in public schools,
• to reveal the impact of chess on the development of children’s cognitive and creative abilities,
• to understand how chess contributes to the development of the most important competencies of the 21st century.
International Cooperation
CSRI coordinates the "Chess in Education" program and organizes conferences which bring together representatives of more than 100 countries around the world. The Institute has
Interdisciplinary activities: our team is composed of psychologists, sociologists, biologists, chess players, and leading specialists in education.
CSRI collaborates with reputable international scientists, as well as schools and kindergartens across the country.
Our Image
Since its establishment, the Institute has hosted presidents of various countries, FIDE leaders, world-famous grandmasters, ministers of education, and high-ranking state and international officials.
Our Research
CSRI’s scientific activity covers all levels of education - from preschool to postgraduate. During the research, CSRI uses cutting-edge tools such as IBM SPSS, Atlas.ti, Face Reader, Egoscope, UCINET, etc. The results of CSRI’s activity have been published in prestigious international databases: Scopus, Web of Science, as well as in dozens of monographs, manuals, and more than 100 international and local publications.
