01.12.2025
Ten Faculties of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) are holding enlarged board sessions before the end of the year, and the first board session was held at the Faculty of Philology and attended by not only the members, but also the University’s administration.
Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan considered it symbolic that the first meeting is being held in the founding Faculty of the University. She also attached importance to these meetings in terms of accountability, listening to each other, identifying the problems, looking towards the future and predetermining the achievements and the upcoming actions.
Lilit Mkrtchyan emphasized that she is guided by 3 key principles in her work — responsibility, transparency and discipline. She fully hopes the attendees will also be guided by these principles and the principle of working together.
Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ashot Galstyan presented the Faculty’s report for the year 2025, as well as the mission and goals. He also touched upon the issues of quality assurance and emphasized that the Faculty has revisited the regulatory documents on the development, organizing and implementation of the Faculty’s Bachelor’s Degree Program and Master’s Degree Program and has drawn up the new curricula this year.
Ashot Galstyan also touched upon the Faculty’s students, academic activities, internal and external relations and the Faculty’s internationalization.
Galstyan also talked about the Faculty’s high reputation, the existence of an academic environment, the active involvement of the lecturers and professors in the publication of scientific articles, the high level of access to educational-methodical and informational resources and more. He also presented the Faculty’s advantages and viewed as a problem the passiveness and the base of experiments that is not excellent, as well as the difficulties with the base for ensuring internships and job placement for graduates.
Member of the Faculty’s board, Head of the Chair of Armenian Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan assured that the Faculty will apply the provisions stated by the Acting Rector, adding that the Faculty is aware that pedagogues are the foundation of the country and that the profession is of major strategic significance.
The session was held in a question-and-answer format (review of rates, provision of alternative textbooks, stronger University-school relationship, as well as increase in the number of hours of internship in school, review of the research component in the work of professors and more). The Acting Rector mentioned that the meeting also serves as an opportunity to speak openly about the current problems and map the actions to be taken.
Lilit Mkrtchyan added that she knows all the aspects of education, has an in-depth notion of the whole educational process, is engaged in various areas of education and, in some cases, is an author or co-author.
The Acting Rector assured that she is willing to discuss, guide and interpret the current problems in order to see growth and development. She touched upon the policy that the government is leading to restore the reputation of a teacher, considered the school-university relationship a pivotal issue, and, summing up, attached importance to the formation of a student’s mindset so that the students understand that they have the most important mission.
At the end of the session, Lilit Mkrtchyan granted certificates to Aelita Dolukhanyan (Head of the Chair of Ancient and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, Professor); Gaiane Khalatyan, (acting Professor of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods after Ararat Gharibyan) and Knarik Abrahamyan (Associate Professor of the Chair of Armenian New and Modern Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods after Vache Partizuni) for actively carrying out activities in academics.
