The Board of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) held an enlarged session attended by the University’s administration led by Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan.

Dean Artur Tadevosyan presented the year-end report and the Faculty’s vision for development.

In his remarks, Tadevosyan mentioned that, at the outset of this year, the Faculty had set the main directions for improvement of education, science and managerial processes, had planned mechanisms for strengthening transparency of academic processes and increasing participation in decision-making and had drafted recommendations to increase effectiveness of the communication with employers and internships.

Comparative analyses of vocational education programs; school textbooks authored by the professors of the Chair; participation in scientific conferences; close cooperation with prestigious scientific-educational institutions and structures of foreign countries, etc. —   Artur Tadevosyan presented the Faculty’s activities and touched upon the strengths and weaknesses of the Faculty, indicating the risks and opportunities.

In regard to the Faculty’s vision for circuit development, the Dean considered turning the Faculty into a leading regional center in terms of pedagogical education integrating natural science, mathematics and IT, expanding innovating teaching methods, internationalization of the Faculty and modernization of the research and laboratory base, through complete and ongoing activities of the planning-implementation-assessment-improvement cycle.

ASPU Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan, who was attending the session, noted the importance of the provisions stated in the vision for development of the Chair and underscored their inclusiveness in the upcoming strategic plan of the University.

Lilit Mkrtchyan mentioned the importance of graduates carrying out their professional activities in schools; the need for actions to increase attractiveness of the teaching profession; the actions aimed at revaluing the image of a teacher; the strengthening of the school-university relationship; the creation of innovative instructional materials and guides and the joint efforts with university students, teachers and pupils. “The Armenian State Pedagogical University has to be the environment that will help consolidate every representative of the education sector,” the Acting Rector remarked and assured that the University will soon create a corresponding environment for the implementation of competency-based education.
