New Opportunities for Cooperation between Armenia and Iran discussed at ASPU

On June 17, the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted Mohammad Asadi-Movahedi, Cultural Attaché at the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Armenia.

During the meeting with the ASPU leadership, the parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, particularly the development of Persian language teaching methods, expansion of language and educational cooperation, as well as opportunities for implementing academic, educational, and cultural initiatives.

Acting Rector of ASPU Lilit Mkrtchyan briefed the guest on the University's development priorities and emphasized that the University is always ‘open’ to international cooperation. She added that ASPU is ready to contribute to the development of Persian language teaching methods in Armenia and to promote the exchange of experience in the field.

Lilit Mkrtchyan noted that ASPU has previously had degree seekers from the Islamic Republic of Iran, which indicates the need for educational cooperation. She further added that ten Iranian teachers have completed a training course at the University within the framework of teacher training programs.

The acting rector also considered cooperation possible not only in the field of language teaching, but also in the development of history teaching methods, introduction of new educational approaches, and the advancement of intercultural communication.

Mohammad Asadi-Movahedi emphasized the importance of initiating cooperation with the Armenian State Pedagogical University, noting that although such collaboration may have come somewhat later than expected, it holds considerable promise.

He expressed hope that joint efforts would make it possible to address the existing challenges in the field of Persian language teaching in Armenia.

He added that about 4,500 children are currently learning Persian in Armenia. However, one of the major challenges in the field is the limited number of qualified specialists and Persian-language teachers. Mohammad Asadi-Movahedi emphasized the importance of ASPU’s involvement in the process on the professional level and proposed developing the methodology of Persian teaching with the active participation of the University’s academic staff.

The Iranian official also noted that the Iranian side is ready to engage visiting lecturers and organize professional training courses, thereby contributing to the development of expertise and professional capacities in the field.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening educational and cultural cooperation, emphasizing the importance of sharing experience, implementing joint initiatives, and building sustainable partnerships in the field of education.
