ASPU Faculty of Art Education is 60 years old…

The Faculty of Art Education at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation. Throughout its activities, the Faculty has educated and prepared thousands of graduates, most of whom have gone on to become dedicated pedagogues/artists.

On the occasion of the Faculty’s foundation, Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan congratulated the attendees and noted that, in all periods of history, universities have been known for professors and students who have had an impact in their respective sectors. According to her, the Faculty of Art Education also stands out with its role of educating the society, dictating and creating values.

The Acting Rector of the University granted the “Pedagogical University” Medal to People’s Painter of the Republic of Armenia, first-generation graduate of the Faculty of Art Education Hrant Tadevosyan for his prolific activities.

Dean of the Faculty of Art Education Ara Hakobyan presented the history of foundation and development of the Faculty and mentioned that even today, the Faculty continues the activities of its great figures, preparing the leading specialists in the areas of art criticism, fine arts, music, decorative-applied arts and fashion design.

Throughout the years, renowned artists have taught in the Faculty and have played a major role in the development of education and the arts.

Among the several guests attending the event was People’s Painter of the Republic of Armenia Paravon Mirzoyan, who was the Head of the Chair of Fine Arts years ago. Mirzoyan stated that among those who lie at the core of the Faculty are renowned artists, including Hovhannes Zardaryan, Ghukas Chubaryan, Zakhar Khachatryan and a dozen other artists, whose work he continued with pleasure, noting that this is the greatest standard in life.

“Sixty years seems like a short period, but a tremendous and invaluable amount of work has been done — educating generations, working with self-dedication, carrying out interesting projects and developing through leaps for the benefit of youth and various fields of the arts,” President of the Artists’ Union of Armenia Suren Safaryan stated as he underscored the Faculty’s importance.

Safaryan attached importance to the close cooperation between the Union and the Faculty and considered it binding.

Suren Safaryan added that, for him, the Faculty of Art Education is more than precious since his grandfather, People’s Painter of Armenia, Professor Suren Safaryan taught in this Faculty, and one of the studios of the Faculty is named after him.

The event featured musical performances, a fashion show runway and a display of works of art; the Faculty’s professors and students presented their respective professions and the contributions of those professions to the arts.
