13.03.2026
Student internship is one of the key components of professional preparation of students of the Chair of Museology, Library Studies and Bibliography of the Faculty of Culture at the Armenian State Pedagogical University, and it is conducted in the University’s History Museum.
The internship allows students to combine their theoretical knowledge with practice and become familiar with various sectors of museum work.
During the internship, the students take part in performing the main functions of a museum and learn about the replenishment, record-registration, maintenance of and research on museum collections.
In addition, they have the opportunity to explore the principles of gathering museum items, the characteristics of organizing activities for the museum collection and the importance of preservation of cultural heritage.
One of the major directions for students’ training is also the process of organizing museum exhibitions. The interns are introduced to the principles of creating exhibitions, the ways of selecting and presenting samples, as well as the characteristics of designing an exhibition in terms of science and the arts.
“Special focus is on organizing activities with visitors. The students take part in preparing and conducting excursions and learn about the methods of development and implementation of museum education programs. This process helps them have an understanding of the role that museums play in terms of education and upbringing and the effective ways of museum communication during work with different audiences,” Director of the ASPU History Museum Alvard Grigoryan told aspu.am.
Grigoryan says becoming familiar with the activities of other museums in Yerevan is one of the key components of the internship.
Students’ visits to a number of museums in Yerevan are organized at the initiative of Director of the History Museum of Armenia, President of the Association of Museum Workers and Friends of Armenia Alvard Grigoryan and as part of the plan for cooperation with alumni of the Armenian State Pedagogical University.
According to Alvard Grigoryan, the visits provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the work experience of various museums, different approaches to organization of exhibitions, as well as the educational and cultural programs of museums. As a result, the students get a more complete picture of the operation of the museum system and gain important professional skills.
