An interactive game competition was held at the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on May 7. The event brought together children from the ASPU Base College (High School) and Khoren and Shooshanig Avedisian School.
The event was organized by Armine Yeprikyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Armenian History. The aim of the competition was to test participants’ knowledge of Armenian history, national traditions, cultural heritage of the Armenian Highland, as well as national songs and dances.
The game competition was not an ordinary quiz; it used digital and gaming technologies, transforming history into a lively and interactive form of communication.
The participants answered questions about the symbolism of traditional Armenian dances, the history of patriotic songs, and national culture with great enthusiasm. Not only a competition of knowledge, but also a cultural dialogue emerged in the warm and healthy competitive atmosphere.
Dean of the Faculty Edgar Hovhannisyan described the traditional event as a distinctive manifestation of school-university cooperation and a successful example of collaboration. He said the key objective of the initiative is not to determine winners and losers, but to fulfill an important educational mission - development and strengthening of knowledge about Armenian history.
During the competition, the team of ASPU’s High School was guided by the motto, “Apart from the homeland, all paradises outside our homeland are deceptive for us,” while the children from Khoren and Shooshanig Avedisian School were guided by the motto “Strength from the past, victory from the future.”
The students answered the questions with great enthusiasm, and the game took place in a warm and healthy competitive atmosphere. In the end, the participants got only with certificates and new knowledge, but also with new friends and unforgettable impressions.
For the students involved in organizing the event, the game competition was an important practical experience, which gave them the opportunity to apply their pedagogical and methodological skills in a real educational environment.
Summing up the event, Armine Yeprikyan noted that initiatives of such format show that history teaching can be modern, dynamic, and inspiring: not only do they enrich students’ knowledge, but also introduce them to the university environment, contributing to the strengthening of historical memory and the preservation of national identity from the school years onward.
At the end of the competition, the team of ASPU’s High School was declared the winner with a score of 49.5 and 48.5, respectively.
