VaKE method presented during the training

A training session was held for the lecturers of the Chair of Geography and its Teaching Methods of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU). The training was devoted to VaKE (Values and Knowledge Education), a didactical approach in which moral and values education is combined with knowledge construction.
Associate Professor Marine Matosyan, Deputy Dean for Science and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry, and Geography, presented the theoretical foundations of the model in the modern educational environment and the possibilities for its application.
She also referred to several strategies and techniques.
In particular, the associate professor focused the stages of VAKE, presenting the step-by-step application of the method - from the presentation of “dilemma stories” to the collection of information and final argumentation.
Within the framework of the main components, emphasis was placed on the development of critical thinking and the importance of moral orientation alongside the acquisition of scientific facts. Also, the application of the method in the field of geography was presented.
The participants discussed examples on how the method can be applied in the teaching process.
