Chair of Music Education
The Chair of Music Education has a rich history. In 1959, the Department of Song and Music was established, followed by the establishment of the Department of Painting. In 1965, the Faculty of Aesthetic Discipline (with the Departments of Music and Fine Arts) was established through a merger of the Department of Song and Music and the Department of Painting.

After structural changes, the Chairs of Music Theory and Teaching Methods, Musical Instruments, Conducting and Sound Recording separated and joined together, becoming a part of the Faculty of Culture and later the Faculty of Art Education.

Since 2012, the Chair is part of the Faculty of Art Education. In this period, the Chair has had different names, and in 2015, it was renamed to the Chair of Music Education.

In different years, the Heads of the Chair have been musicologists and performers, including Tsitsilya Brutyan, Emma Tsaturyan, Yakov Zargaryan, Eduard Elbakyan, Khoren Meykhanejyan, Manuk Manukyan, Henrik Simonyan, Yelena Vardanyan, Seda Mangasaryan, Karlen Topchyan, Loreta Aghasaryan, Arkady Shekunts, Yuri Yuzbashyan, Sargis Elbakyan, Vyacheslav Yedigaryan, Artashes Baburyan, Anna Harutyunyan, Margarita Baghdasaryan and others.

Currently, the Chair is headed by Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor Anna Harutyunyan.

Throughout its history, the Chair has set up choirs, which have been under the direction of the following people in different years: Associate Professor Vaghinak Chakmishyan; People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Professor Emma Tsaturyan; Distinguished Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Professor Eduard Elbakyan; Distinguished Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Professor Khoren Meykhanejyan; Mesrop Mesropyan and Associate Professor Artashes Baburyan.

Under the direction of Distinguished Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Professor Eduard Elbakyan, the co-ed choir has received a gold medal at the competition of nationwide choirs, and the “Ave Maria” All-Girls Chamber Choir, which is under the direction of Associate Professor Artashes Baburyan and recipient of the “Amadeus-98” nationwide competition, actively participates in musical life in the country.

The Chair carries out many educational-methodical, academic and disciplinary activities, provides an education to obtain a PhD, as well as publishes monographs, methodical and educational manuals and scientific articles.

The professors and students deliver academic speeches at the scientific conferences organized by the University and during various inter-university scientific conferences.

The Chair’s professors and students are actively engaged in the University’s cultural life with their performances.

The Chair has 1 PhD, Professor, 3 Professors, 5 Candidates of Sciences, Associate Professor, 7 Associate Professors, 8 Assistants, 6 lecturers and 12 employees of the learning assistance staff.
