The Chair of Sociology and Social Work was established in 2009, as a result of the research activities carried out by the Laboratory of Sociology.

The Chair has made a great contribution to the formation, development and dissemination of sociological science and practice in the Republic of Armenia. Yuri Gasparyan and academician Gevorg Poghosyan have greatly contributed to the establishment of the field and the formation of scientific thought.

Since 2022, the Chair is under the direction of Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Gayane Khachikyan.

The Chair stands out with its active efforts in science and education; every year, the professors and lecturers participate in international conferences and seminars, closely work with foreign scholars and carry out joint research programs.

In addition, seminars, as well as educational and academic events are organized and held on a regular basis.

The Chair has leading and well-known specialists, and among the professors and scholars are 1 PhD, Professor, 5 candidates, Associate Professors, 6 lecturers, 1 specialist, coordinator.

Within the scope of the Chair’s academic areas, applicants can receive quality education in both the Bachelor’s Degree Program and the Master’s Degree Program. Moreover, instruction through the Bachelor’s Degree Program is available in the on-site and distance learning systems, and there is on-site learning in the Master’s Degree Program.
