➜ Starting in the 2011-12 Academic Year, the University’s Chair of Sports organized chess teaching, under the direction of founding President of the Chess Academy of Armenia, International Grandmaster Smbat Lputian.

➜ In 2011, “Chess” was included as a mandatory subject in the curriculum for 2nd-4th graders of general education schools in the Republic of Armenia.

➜ To increase effectiveness of teaching, starting in the 2012-13 Academic Year, “Chess” began to be taught in the Faculty of Primary Education in order to arm the homeroom teachers of the elementary classes with knowledge about chess. The Pedagogical University had the first generation of chess teachers who successfully began to teach “Chess” for 2nd-4th graders at general education schools in Yerevan and in the provinces of the Republic of Armenia.

➜ The Chair also houses a shooting room where there are separate class hours in order for the students to have military skills.
