➜ The Chair was established in 1995 and was renamed Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development in 2012.

➜ About two decades ago, the concept of sustainable development was adopted based on the principles of economic development, environmental security and balance and social justice.

➜ In this context, it is especially important to prepare Specialists in “Education for Sustainable Development” (ESD) with comprehensive ecological education.

Priority areas of research conducted by the Chair are

✔  theory and practice of sustainable development, global and national processes and positive experiences: Sustainable management of natural resources, implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Republic of Armenia.

✔ Environmental psychophysiology, medical monitoring (research under the influence of different environmental factors)

 ✔  Methods of teaching fundamentals of Ecology in high school streams

 ✔  Environment impact assessment and monitoring in industrial centers of the Republic of Armenia (Yerevan, Vanadzor, Alaverdi, Kapan and Kajaran)

 ✔  Green education and green economy.

✔ Study of autumn-sown wheat yield and ontogenesis of hybrid wheat varieties in different ecological zones of the Republic of Armenia.

✔  Monitoring and assessment of biodiversity in the Lake Sevan basin.

 ✔  Insect ecology: development of biological control methods against blood-sucking insects.

✔ Study of floristic composition of certain types of vegetation in the drainage base of the Azat River

✔ Study of the floristic composition and ecological characteristics of certain types of vegetation
