Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development

Founded in 1995 as the Chair of Ecology and Nature Protection and renamed the Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development in 2012, the Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development has high-quality scientific-pedagogical personnel and carries out serious educational-methodical and research activities, in cooperation with the scientific centers and laboratories of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

Engaging students of the Environmental Sciences Department in the research activities is also aimed at preparing high-quality specialists.

The professors of the Chair are authors of monographs, methodical manuals and scientific articles, which are published in highly rated periodicals in both Armenia and abroad.

The professors take part in local and international scientific conferences, trainings, and are invited to foreign universities to speak as guest lecturers. The professors of the Chair are also engaged in different international programs, and are members of a number of international and republican committees and the Supreme Certifying Committee granting academic ranks.

An ”Ecological Monitoring and Evaluation” scientific laboratory operates in the Chair of Ecology and Sustainable Development, and the following examinations are conducted in the laboratory: assessment of the ecological situation of mining areas in the Republic of Armenia (assessment of heavy metals contamination), inventory of the biodiversity of the Lake Sevan basin, Nubarashen Cemetery of Toxic Chemicals, soil pollution, neutralization methods, the green areas of Yerevan and dust and particulate pollution.
