Mkrtchyan Marine Gagik
Back in 2001, Marine Mkrtchyan, graduate of the Department for Museum Work and Preservation of Monuments and current Director of the Museum of Russian Art, started pursuing her studies in the Faculty of Culture of the Pedagogical University (Institute).
Today, the leading specialist of the sector considers the four years at the Pedagogical University as a major path to professional development. As she states, even though 20 years have passed since she graduated, she is still loyal to the profession of a museologist.
Currently, Director of the Museum of Russian Art Marine Mkrtchyan also teaches at the State Academy of Art of Armenia and is the Director of the Association of Museum Workers and Friends.
For years, her work has been aimed at exploring and using modern methods in museum management, introducing innovative approaches and enhancing public engagement.
During her term of office as Director of the Museum of Russian Art, Marine Mkrtchyan has succeeded in establishing an effective management system, advancing public programs, and has held modern and international exhibitions through the procurement of a target fund.
According to her, what lies at the core of every initiative are the modern methods of museum management through which importance is attached to motivated teamwork as well.
Professional training courses also had a major impact on Marine Mkrtchyan’s professional insight, and among the courses that are particularly important for her are the “Museum Management” Summer School Program at the University of Antwerp (2010), the international training course organized by the British Institute (2014) and the museum management courses held in the United States and China (2017).
As she noted, these experiences helped boost the development of professional capabilities and new skills, the deepening of knowledge about modern models of management, the development of cultural activities, as well as helped create effective models of teamwork and build new partnering ties.
Marine Mkrtchyan is glad to have the honor to feel also the joy of being a teacher and share with future specialists the knowledge and experience that she has gained throughout all these years, promoting not only the profession of museologist, but also the harmonization of museology and other disciplines.
“I am certain that my students will be bolder, and the cultural reforms will be inevitable. I am ready to ensure maximum result with my active participation, innovative ideas and the knowledge gained, gearing all this towards the Museum that is under my direction and towards the development of museology,” Marine Mkrtchyan told aspu.am.
