Davit Khatayan –the Hero of Our days, ASPU Graduate

Exemplary, disciplined, clever and moderate; this is how the graduate of the ASPU Base College and the Pedagogical University, terminable soldier Davit Khatayan is characterized; he is one of the five awarded soldiers who were conferred on the title of lieutenant officer by the Minister of Defence of the Nagorno Karabakh a few days ago.

From 2007- 2009 Davit Khatayan studied in the Physics and Mathematical stream, after which continued education in the Pedagogical University Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Department of Painting and Drawing.

The Director of the College Naira Safaryan remembers well that still from the school years Davit stood out for his self-respect and willingness to help a friend, and this was also proved on the frontier.

The Director is regularly interested in soldiers who graduated from the college; while the news about Davit only made her proud.

“The mother was passing the greetings he had sent for his teachers, and this was always accepted with surprise; every time when talking to him instead of ourselves, HE was encouraging that everything was fine, wishing us wellbeing”.

During the April confrontation days, in the process of repelling the countering activities initiated by the enemy throughout the entire Karabagh- Azerbaijan conflict zone his commander Argishti Gaboyan and his fellow servicemen passed away, but Davit and his military friends exchanged the deceased commander and managed to refract the course of military activities to support the Armenian forces.

The mother Anna Khatayan is a teacher of English at the ASPU Base College; the news about her son receiving the officer title got her surprised. Her son did not tell her anything, he is taciturn and moderate. When speaking about her son, the mother got worried.

“Davit would not like the idea of announcing this news. To every kind of congratulation he answers – why do I need this; he considers any prize or award nothing in comparison with the death of military friends.

What is more, Anna Khatayan remembers well how she came to a surprise when one day her son informed her about going to the military commission and strictly urged her not to interfere- he was going to the Army.

She saw him off, and now she is waiting for his return with a cheerful mood in one month; but one thing is incomplete, unfinished: next to the pride and dignity are her son’s experience and anxiety to revenge for the dead friends, to bring to an end their unfinished work.

One month is left till the end of the service, but the mother doubts whether her son will leave the borders for the defence of which he has lost his friends.

In order to participate in the funeral of the Commander, Davit came home for only three hours, warning in advance not to ask any question- everything is alright.

The name of the ASPU graduate Davit Khatayan is already on the lips of the College and University students despite the fact that they are proud of all heroes of our days and express hope that the day of the triumphant soldiers returning home is not far away.

Today, mother’s anxiety does not leave Anna Khatayan for a second. She is sure that her son is holding position even at rest; but at the same time she squeezes in her hand one of the pair of blessed crosses; the second on of the pair is with her son.

“When the cross gets too warm in my hand, I know for sure that my son is rescuing a soldier at that moment”.
