Lems Nersisyan: I shall keep silent. Let my paintings speak for me

A solo exhibition of paintings by Lems Nersisyan, Professor at the Chair of Fine Arts, opened at the Artists' Union of Armenia on April 14.

The painter planned to open the exhibition entitled “Spiritual Lamps of My Armenia” in October 2016 but it so happened that he had to reschedule the event and open it on the Eve of the Easter Feast.

Seventy-two paintings by Lems Nersisyan, portraying famous churches in Armenia, Artsakh and Western Armenia, were exhibited in the hall.

“Faith is the basis of my canvases. I went to many of these churches on foot, treating the journey as a pilgrimage rather than culture. Churches are our spiritual treasures,” Lems Nersisyan said in conversation with aspu.am. He added that the works will also be exhibited at the Gevorkian

Theological Seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin and outside Armenia.

“The artist's paintings brighten up the moods of the gloomy and dark day. He loves his Homeland; he is in love with Nature and renders whatever he sees in a unique way,” Chairman of Artists' Union of Armenia Karen Aghamyan said in his opening remarks. He expressed hope that the painter’s works would be studied thoroughly in time.

He is convinced that the professor transfers his knowledge and skills generously to his students.

“He is fighting with all the beauty of his native land,” Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Hrant Tatos said when describing Lems Nersisyan. He assured everyone that it is utter bliss for an artist to be in harmony with Nature, to live, love and and appreciate each other.

The exhibition was attended by lecturers, students and art-loving guests. The exhibition will be open until April 24.
