Recently, the Department of Theoretical Physics and Physics Teaching Methodology of the Pedagogical University’s Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics was conferred on the status of a federative institute of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics of the city of Trieste, Italy.
The Center is widely known all over the world, it is frequently acting with an important mission in various countries including Armenia, initiating schools and other undertakings in the sphere. A lot of world famous scientists are cooperating with the Center, who pass their knowledge and experience to the young scientists that visit the Center.
In fact, the Center was among those who contributed to the regional conference “Active learning of Optics and Photonics” held at the Pedagogical University in 2012.
The Head of the Department of Theoretical Physics and Physics Teaching Methods Mr. Edward Kokanyan has been cooperating with the Center since 2002; within the framework of a grant he carried out research activities in a laboratory in Italy, and in 2007 he received the title of Professor from the ICTP.
“Recently I participated in the event organized on the 50th anniversary of establishment of the International Center for Theoretical Physics, met a number of outstanding representatives including Fernando Cuevedo, the Director of the Center. Besides, as a result of discussions about the continuation and improvement of cooperation with the Center, I submitted a programme that was further approved; thus, a contract was signed, according to which the Department received the status of ICTP Federative Institute.”
What is more, highlighting the cooperation with the center, Mr. Edward Kokanyan noticed that it would raise the prestige of the Department, improve the cooperation process with various international educational and scientific institutions, give an opportunities to young specialists, PhD and other students to participate in the events organized by the Center, including experiments, trainings, seminars, schools, conferences, as well as to get familiarized with the latest achievements of science through bilateral exchange activities importing the gained experience and knowledge to the Department.
