Revolutionary in his Field; Harut Pambukchyan Visited the Pedagogical

“Once upon a time, when the urban folk music was influenced by such instruments as the accordion, dhol and clarinet, it was thanks to this musician that a new quality was attributed to urban folk. He is one of the exceptional singers, who left his country but didn’t forget his roots and homeland; several generations grew up with his patriotic songs. Harut Pambukchyan is a revolutionary in his field”, mentioned the Head of the ASPU Chair of Music Ara Gevorgyan during the meeting with singer, musician Harut Pambukchyan held at the Pedagogical University today.

The composer states that a real legend lives with us, who is enjoying love both in his homeland and beyond its borders; he is devoted to his art, works honestly and is a best-selling singer. After the collapse of the Soviet Union he was able to perform in a full concert hall for ten days.

“When I was asked to deliver a lecture, I was very surprised; I still can’t even sing properly, how I am going to read a lecture”, the musician mentioned at the beginning of his meeting with the students and continued sharing his happiness with his characteristic sincerity for meeting the young generation of the talented nation, for being in his homeland, which was the source of his spiritual birth.
“It’s already around 44 years I’ve been living in a city that has no relations to my ancestors. The only city that I sing about is Yerevan, I am proud to be

Armenian and I am glad to reflect in my art all that I gain from my nation.

A few facts and some details from the singer’s biography, not fully exposing his rich life-path though. Harut Pambukchyan is modestly mentioning about his achievements, preferring to satisfy the students’ curiosity in a Q&A session.

“Any work one does, should be done either well or not done at all”, assures the musician, who collected the best elements from the world- famous musicians and from Armenian gusan [ethno music] art throughout time and achieved success by combining them.

The discussed topic referred to his memories about school years, about choosing his profession, getting engaged in the art of music; the students of the Pedagogical University are interested in all details about their favorite artist, making efforts to reveal the formula of the singer’s success, and asking philosophical questions about life.

The student of the Department of Spanish Language Ellada, the singer’s great fan, was frank in her communication. She first enumerated her similarities with the singer, then offers to sing together, after which she asks his advice whether or not she should continue singing or she’d rather keep reading.

“Sing!” Harut Pambukchyan’s answer encourages the student; her life dream came true.

“Doesn’t the new generation know how to love? Or maybe they just don’t know how to sing about love.” The singer replies to this question from Yervand that young people have chosen the easy way to achieve success; they prefer not creating something new but often just repeat one another instead.

“A person is happy if he is able to earn for his living with his favorite profession and by doing a quality work. We should be proud of our nationality, our homeland, and never forget the past”, mentioned Harut Pambukchyan at the end of the meeting with the students, concluding the day with his live performance of the favourite songs.
