Samvel Sevada: “24 Hours in Art”

Fine arts, music, literature, photography and their synthesis; photographer Samvel Sevada presented his “muses”, their role and meaning in a person’s life in his exhibition of 200 works held at the Artists Union of Armenia today.

The event was attended by the students of the ASPU Department of Artistic Photography and representatives of younger generation, including the students of the Yerevan N135 secondary school after Gagik Stepanyan and the students of the Yerevan State College of Culture and Art after Charles Aznavour.

A few days ago, a photo exhibition headed “Light in Shades”, demonstrating personal works of the Associate Professor of the Faculty of Culture, Chair of Camera and Artistic Photography, the RA Honoured Art Figure Samvel Sevada was launched on the 100th anniversary of the Pedagogical University.

Charles Aznavour, Hrant Matevosyan, other prominent people, as well as ordinary peasants- each of the heroes of Samvel Sevada’s photos is in his inner world, telling about his day and his minute through his character and mood.

It is not accidental, that Samvel Sevada started his conversation about his photos, which stood out with their variety of genres, such as landscape, portrait, still life and situational photos, with the discussion of the same name photo “Zruyts” [Conversation].

However, the photographer was sorry to mention that in the current technology era live communication had decreased, and therefore, he was also trying to fill in that gap by uniting people around his art.

Right at the beginning Samvel Sevada urged to stay only to those, who were interested in art, as one shouldn’t be looking at the photos with an “absent sight”.

“I am not a victim of the camera, on the contrary, it is a mere tool in my hands, with the help of which I am trying to preserve the artistic level. My works are taken from life, in fact, some of them are already deemed classical works, which are also educative. When I get tired of taking photos, I am grabbing my painting brush, but if it is impossible to paint, I am writing poems”, mentioned Samvel Sevada and added that he was in art for 24 hours but he still managed to transfer his skills to his students, so that they could feel the beauty of the world and life from the perspective of art.

The “conversation” held at the Artists Union of Armenia was warm and interesting, all those present enjoyed watching the works of Samvel Sevada’s recent years and the story of their creation.

Art lovers and future artists asked their questions to the Honoured Art Figure.

Summing up, we would like to mention that the artistic photo exhibition headed “Light in the Shades” will be open at the Artists Union of Armenia until 10 April, after which it will be displayed in a number of regions of the country.
